The Adam isn't going to be shipping from your local Amazing Warehouse. It is probably coming from half way across the world. Add the weight of the various elements (manual, charger and packaging) and it can all add up. DHL isn't cheap either!

01:20 The site seems to be under HEAVY load and going up and down with 503 errors/Service Unavailable messages.

01:15 Users are now reporting Open Access to the Notion Ink Adam Pre-order page. Everybody can order.

01:07 people are now reporting that the Jan 9th delivery is no longer available and they are seeing 6 - 8 weeks.

01:05:People who were sent early pre-order invites have indeed been able to pre-order their Adams, many of them have confirmed their orders on the Notion Ink Blog.

01:00 Early orders started at around 00:00 GMT. It seems 9:30 PST (06:00 GMT~, i think) is when pre-orders will begin for the general public. It seems there has been a delay of 6 hours to the schedule.

Engadget and their Anti Notion Ink Bias

The Engadget Editor made a post on Engadget (http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/09/notion-ink-adam-gets-caught-photoshopping-its-bezel-away/#disqus_thread - The tags to that post were "adam, fail, misleading, notion ink, notion ink adam, NotionInk,NotionInkAdam, photoshop, pre-order,pre-orders, shady, slate, tablet, vapor, vaporware") citing the fact that Notion Ink had photoshopped their product image to which he got majorly slated because he didn't even bother to read the Notion Ink Blog.

On his twitter he posted :

Calling someone shady over a photoshopped image to me seems like a joke. I am a big fan of engadget but this is poor form for someone deleting comments that obviously point out how in competent he is in presenting hsi story and doing his research.

After a serious blacklash from the community, he closed comments and started to delete those that were pointing out how incompetent he is.

I am a big proponent of a small company trying to achieve their goals. Big Blogs should be supporting those with a vision and desire to bring us something new and different. Not posting negative and taunting articles. CrapGear did the same thing a few days ago. If they were all doing this with proof, I would thank them but this is just silly.

Who said people would pre-order on the basis of an image? You aren't going to be forced to pre-order on the basis of an image. I'm pretty sure in the detailed post they will tell people everything they need to know before orders.

I don't understand how companies can be "shady" for editing renders? Surely if consumers have an ounce of intelligence they will do what is required (on their part) to ensure that the product is everything the company promises it will be. I'm pretty disappointed in the tone of the whole story.

The funny thing is Notion Ink keep getting called shady/vapoware/liars/misleading, some of us don't take everything at face value or actually make an effort to do some research. I hope this guy had done the same. If you see the LinkedIN profile of their UI Director, You can see that he has worked at MANY reputable companies before.

Does he really think they would go to such lengths as detailing everything on a blog?(oh wait, he is so pro you didn't even bother to read their blog) and "faking" UI images because they are "shady" and trying to trick everyone? Do you really think their customer base is that stupid?

Notion Ink Adam reveal Image has hidden Messages

The first hidden message in the image properties is:

“Oh you’ve reached here! So there is a small information for you. I am coming soon, with a Kernel better than out there! ”

it seems that the Adam will come with Gingerbread (Android 2.3).

The second message:

“All around me you see a strip, which is easily replaceable. So you can make me look white or ferrari red!”

Sounds like you are going to be able to easily change the colour of your Adam!

The third message read:

Steps coming your way! Stay Tuned! For first 6 hours, the first one will get access and then we all!

I think what means by the first ones is those either in the family or those that took part in the logo competition.

Notion Ink Adam FAQ

There have been a lot of questions asked about the Adam, I thought I would take some time and put them in a single place so people do not have to dig through 100s of comments

This is currently just a draft. If you have anymore questions that should be added then please add them to the comments!

Q:Has the Adam been submitted to the FCC?

A: On the 24th Nov 2010 the FCC received an application from Notion Ink but it is not clear for what however it is believed to be for the Adam. (Rohan hints in Weekend Special X that previous observations mentioned in my FCC related blog post by me/others on the blog are correct!)

Q:will the mail program support PGP encryption?

A: Yes

Q:Will the Adam support CPU Hot Plug?

A:Yes

Q: What Apps will come with the Adam?

A: Initially there will be 20 Apps, to name a few: Mail'd , Calendar, Office Suite, Sniffer (File Manager). You can learn more about those Apps in: Weekend Special IX

Q: What languages and file formats will be supported?

A: The Office suite supports 35 Languages, all major formats (including docx, pptx, pdf, etc) and zip files as well.

Q: Will the Adam Support Flash?

A: Yes - it will come bundled with Flash and support Adobe AIR

Q: Will the screen be Gloss or Matte?

A: Matte

Q: Will the Adam have an Active Digitizer?

A: At this point in time it does not seem to be the case, however from Rohans Blog, Which shows a canvas done by hand, Which seems to be very accurate.

Q:Will there be a trackpad at the back?

A: This answer is a rumour and not confirmed by Rohan, however it seems the design of a trackpad at the back has already been patented and may not be included. (requires further clarification from Rohan).

UPDATE: The Adam will ship with a rear trackpad however it will not be activated initally due to performance concerns (source: Rohan Shravan interview on Androidheadlines.com)

Q:What is the Bonus Mystery Feature?

A: Rohan has given strong hints that this will be something to do with Nikola Tesla and 3d Interfaces. see: Weekend Special X

Q:Will the Bezel stay as it is now? Why has it changed?

A: Yes - As explained in an earlier blog post

"the reason of still having it (bezel) is the USBs and other I/O peripherals. We have spent a lot of resources and have more than 9 patents on the same (to reduce it)! But the fabs and vendors need to upgrade to accomplish what we want(essentially Adam 2 )"

"EAP was multi pronged test for us. Production Validation, Logistics (handling shipments, etc. for so many countries), test of the support system, work on the feedback before it reaches masses (ones which we can quickly fix) and sending out messages to all that we have arrived!"

Notion Ink's Adam hits FCC Yesterday! Nov 24th

The Adam has also been submitted for FCC approval as shown here:

Search using “Notion Ink” in the Grantee Name. Filed yesterday. The ETA on FCC approval seems to be late December (if this actually is the Adam itself and not an accessory).

Notion Ink has also selected around 400 Developers for their Early Access Program and subsequently minor information leaks have surfaced, indeed confirming that the process is in motion.

The device has has got a lot of people excited and even more very sceptical about all the hype, however only time will tell! With rumours that Reliance are the majority Investors in Notion Ink it would seem that Notion Ink has substantial resources and expertise available to them (further cementing their position).
